A link to some key health care definitions in the news because of ARRA TITLE XIII. Article written by John Halamka in his blog entry A Healthcare IT Primer
Several many other people have commented on the article at: PWC Technology forecast: Spring 2009 Semantic Web for which you need to do a brief sign up.
The set of articles, which are a practical introduction to the semantic web, has a very pragmatic orientation. In particular there is an interview with Frank Chum of Chevron, starting on page 46, that summarizes very succinctly four of the benefits of the semantic web approach (emphasis added), as follows:
“…First, the Semantic Web lets you to be more expressive in the business logic, to add more contextual meaning. Second, it lets you be more flexible, so that you don’t have to have everything fully specified before you start building. Then, third, it allows you to do inferencing, so that you can perform discovery on the basis of rules and axions. Fourth, it improves the interoperability of systems, which allows you to share across the spectrum of the business ecosystem….”
The entire set of articles gives an excellent introduction from a business view of the benefits of the Semantic Web.
Excellent article on the basic concepts behind services: Grumpy Architect week: There is more to services than re-use by Brenda Michelson
It clearly summarizes the basic concepts that underlie any successful IT project life cycle (including a services project) with some very useful references to support the concepts.
